Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its support for all efforts aimed at de-escalation, dialogue, and a comprehensive political settlement to achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Yemen and the wider region.
Speaking at an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Yemen, Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, stated that the situation in Yemen has entered a deeply alarming and dangerous phase.
Ambassador Ahmad highlighted several key areas of grave concern, including the sharp escalation of hostilities across multiple frontlines and continued Houthi attacks against commercial shipping in the Red Sea. He also cited attacks targeting civilian and economic sites within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with the ongoing deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
Warning that these developments carry potentially far-reaching consequences for both Yemen and the broader region, the ambassador underscored the urgent need to prevent further military escalation and to preserve space for diplomatic efforts.
During his address, Ambassador Ahmad reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and prosperity of Saudi Arabia. He expressed full solidarity with the leadership, government, and people of the Kingdom.
He further noted that, in alignment with the UN Charter and international law, Pakistan fully supports Saudi Arabia's legitimate right to take all necessary measures to defend its territory, protect its citizens and residents, and safeguard its national assets against any external threat.
