Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are scheduled to convene on September 22 in Karachi and Islamabad for review talks under the country's USD 7 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF), alongside formal Article IV consultations. The dual track engagements will span two weeks, as confirmed by IMF Resident Mission Chief Mahir Binci and Pakistani official sources.
The upcoming Article IV consultation marks the IMF staff's first comprehensive economic health assessment of Pakistan following a two year hiatus, with the previous consultation conducted in September 2024. Ahead of the delegation's arrival, the government submitted revised monthly and annual import data to address prior multi billion dollar discrepancies. Discussions will also centre on assessing Pakistan's implementation strategy for the Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment (GCD) report.
