Tehran: Iran has called on the US to accept its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying the offer remains on the table, Reuters said.
Speaking to Iranian media, Araghchi said Tehran was prepared to reopen the waterway within six days if Washington agreed to its conditions.
He added that negotiations between Iran and the United States could resume on the seventh day under the proposed arrangement.
The proposal ties the strait's reopening to an agreement between the two countries, making Washington's acceptance of Tehran's conditions a requirement to implement the plan.
The Strait of Hormuz connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and serves as a route for oil and gas shipments from Gulf producers to international markets.
Disruptions to shipping through the strait affect energy supplies and trade, making it a concern for countries dependent on Gulf exports.
Araghchi did not provide further details in the reported remarks about the conditions Washington would need to accept.
The proposal remains subject to agreement between the two governments. No confirmation of US acceptance was included in the reported remarks.
