Islamabad: Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem has announced that his song Bewajah has been submitted for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards in two categories, Best Music Video and Best Global Music Performance.
Raheem shared the announcement through an Instagram post on Thursday, marking another step in his efforts to bring Pakistani music to international audiences.
Performed in Urdu and Shina, Bewajah draws inspiration from the musical traditions and landscape of Gilgit Baltistan, where the singer has his family roots.
The song explores grief and relationships through two monologues between lovers, combining contemporary musical arrangements with traditional percussion.
Its accompanying music video was filmed against the mountainous landscape of northern Pakistan, incorporating elements of the region's cultural identity.
The video prominently features a polo match, with Raheem dressed in white and wearing jewellery, contrasting with the predominantly black clothing worn by others in the scene.
Speaking about the production, the singer highlighted the significance of polo in the region and encouraged audiences to experience the sport at least once. The submission comes as Raheem continues to attract attention beyond Pakistan.
Recently, a video of the singer enjoying Rangeen, a song from Coke Studio Pakistan, at New York's Central Park circulated widely on social media. The footage showed Raheem engaging with the music in a public setting, drawing attention from online audiences and adding to discussions about the international reach of Pakistani music.
Raheem has established himself among Pakistan's contemporary musicians through a sound combining pop, R&B and regional influences.
His decision to submit Bewajah for Grammy consideration also draws attention to the representation of regional languages and cultural traditions in contemporary Pakistani music.
However, submission for consideration does not guarantee a Grammy nomination. The Recording Academy's voting process will determine whether the song progresses to the final list of nominees for the 2027 awards.
