The government has increased the prices of petrol and High Speed Diesel (HSD) with effect from today, Wednesday, according to a press release issued by the Petroleum Division.
The price of HSD has been increased by Rs0.51 per litre, taking the rate to Rs370.92 per litre. Petrol has also become more expensive, with its price rising by Rs1.08 per litre to Rs343.87 per litre.
According to the Petroleum Division, the revised prices apply to the two major petroleum products following the government’s latest review.
The increase means motorists using petrol will now pay Rs343.87 per litre, compared with the previous rate, while consumers purchasing HSD will pay Rs370.92 per litre.
HSD is widely used in the transport sector, particularly by commercial vehicles, while petrol is commonly used by private vehicles and other petrol powered engines. The revised rates therefore affect consumers and businesses purchasing the two fuels.
The Petroleum Division issued the announcement on Wednesday, confirming the changes in the prices of the petroleum products.
Under the revised rates, the increase in petrol is higher than the adjustment made to HSD. Petrol has risen by Rs1.08 per litre, while the HSD price has gone up by Rs0.51 per litre. The new prices are Rs343.87 per litre for petrol and Rs370.92 per litre for HSD.
The Petroleum Division’s announcement provides the revised rates but does not give further details in the information provided about the factors behind the adjustments. The revised prices come into effect from today, Wednesday, marking the latest change in the government’s notified rates for petroleum products.
