Istanbul: Ahead of the inaugural meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement in Istanbul, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held key bilateral talks with Turkish Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler. The high profile engagement featured warm exchanges between the military leadership, as shared by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence.
Accompanying Field Marshal Munir were senior Pakistani defence officials, while Minister Güler was joined by Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. The focused discussions centered on advancing bilateral military coordination and setting the strategic foundation for the larger trilateral framework. Both sides deliberated on aligning operational doctrines, expanding military interoperability, and deepening joint defence industry initiatives, including defence technology sharing and co production.
The talks also covered preparatory steps for the trilateral committee session, establishing a functional roadmap, and organising joint operational mechanisms among the signatory nations. This bilateral engagement builds upon the long standing military partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye, placing it within the broader collective defence setup established alongside Saudi Arabia. By coordinating closely ahead of the main summit, Field Marshal Munir and Minister Güler reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional deterrence, safeguarding territorial sovereignty, and fostering long term strategic stability across the region.
