Lahore: Pakistani YouTuber Rajab Butt issued an unconditional public apology on Tuesday following severe backlash over a resurfaced video clip in which he made a joke referencing child sexual abuse. The controversial remark occurred during a past live broadcast with fellow content creator Zaid Ali T, where Butt compared a facial expression to that of an abused child. The clip sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms, with digital creators, celebrities, and the public condemning the comments as insensitive and inappropriate given the gravity of child abuse issues in the country.
Taking to his Instagram story to address the controversy, Butt acknowledged that his statement was "extremely inappropriate" and "completely below the belt," adding that such jokes are never acceptable regardless of context or intent.
He noted that while such remarks have unfortunately been normalised in casual gatherings, the age of the video does not excuse his words. Butt apologized to those whose sentiments were hurt or traumas triggered, stating that he is actively trying to unlearn harmful humor and become more mindful of the impact of his public statements.
