Lahore: The Punjab Council of the Arts (PUCAR), operating alongside the Information and Culture Department, has launched formal administrative action against female stage actors and commercial theatre managements across Lahore and Gujranwala.
Initiated under the directives of PUCAR Executive Director Mahboob Alam, the crackdown follows monitoring reports citing violations of government policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and the Punjab Drama Act.Show cause notices were served to actors Sonia Lal, Nida Chaudhry, Khushboo Khan, and Fiza Anand over alleged obscene dance routines, audience involvement, and allowing money to be thrown on stage.
Additionally, the managements of Capri Theatre in Gujranwala, alongside Punjabi Theatre and Sitara Theatre in Lahore, were served notices for exceeding timing limits, failure to curb illegal cash collection, and intentionally turning off official CCTV monitoring cameras during live shows. Personal and management hearings are scheduled before the arts council on September 16, 2026.
