Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) on Thursday claimed that its Secretary General Salman Akram Raja and other party leaders were taken by police while travelling to Kotli Sattian in Punjab.
In a post on X, the party alleged that Raja, Latas Satti and others were “illegally abducted” while they were on their way to attend the funeral of a PTI worker.
PTI said the group was subsequently taken to Nilore police station in Islamabad.
The party further alleged that the arrests and detentions were aimed at preventing people from attending the funeral.
The claims come amid heightened political and security activity involving PTI in Punjab and Islamabad. PTI leaders and workers have faced police action in several areas in recent days.
Separately, Dawn reported on Thursday that police in Narowal had registered an FIR against 150 people, mainly PTI leaders and workers, over allegations including attacking police, violating Section 144 and other offences. Police said a constable was injured during the alleged incident.
Islamabad police have also reviewed security and law and order arrangements across the capital amid an anticipated political activity, with the newly appointed police chief directing officers to remain prepared for possible disruptions.
The reported detention of Raja and the other PTI leaders adds to tensions surrounding the party’s activities. PTI’s account of the incident remains an allegation, and the circumstances surrounding the reported detention were not independently established in the Dawn report.
