Karachi: Pakistani American actor Faran Tahir is set to reprise his role as Raza in Marvel Studios' upcoming series VisionQuest, marking his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) nearly two decades after appearing in the franchise's first film.
Tahir originally portrayed Raza, the leader of a faction of the Ten Rings organisation, in Iron Man (2008). His character was involved in the kidnapping of Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., an incident that set the events of the film in motion.
The actor's return connects the forthcoming Disney+ production with the events that established the MCU in 2008.
In Iron Man, Raza was portrayed as an armed group leader who held Stark captive and demanded that he build a weapon. Stark instead developed the first version of his Iron Man armour, allowing him to escape.
Later in the film, Raza was attacked by Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges, leaving viewers with the impression that the character's story had ended. His reappearance in VisionQuest raises questions about how Marvel will explain his survival and what role he will play in the new series.
The production centres on Vision, portrayed by Paul Bettany, following the events of WandaVision, which explored the character's existence after the events of Avengers: Infinity War.
The series premiered on Disney+ on October 14, 2026, and Tahir's return was revealed in its sixth episode, released on October 28.
Eighteen years after Iron Man
In the episode, Raza appears in Madripoor, where Vision is attempting to rescue Thomas Shepherd, also known as Tommy Maximoff. Raza arrives with a group of armed men seeking to capture Vision, bringing him into conflict with the series' central character.
His appearance also establishes that he survived his encounter with Obadiah Stane in Iron Man, where his fate had been left unresolved. The series, developed by showrunner Terry Matalas, continues the storyline established in WandaVision (2021) and Agatha All Along (2024). James Spader also reprises his role as Ultron, alongside Bettany's Vision.
Tahir's return marks another international screen appearance for an actor whose career spans Hollywood films, television and Pakistani cinema. His previous credits include Star Trek (2009), Escape Plan, The Old Man and the Pakistani fantasy film Umro Ayyar.
The casting also illustrates Marvel's use of characters from its earlier productions to connect new storylines with the franchise's history. For Tahir, reprising a role after 18 years provides a continuation of his association with the MCU, which began with the film that launched the franchise.
