Islamabad: The federal government increased petrol and high speed diesel prices, with the revised rates taking effect on Tuesday, October 27, as fluctuations in global energy markets continue to influence domestic fuel costs.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Monday, petrol increased by Rs 1.54, rising from Rs 377.71 to Rs 379.25 per litre.
The price of high speed diesel rose by Rs 2.16, from Rs 393.66 to Rs 395.82 per litre.
The latest increase comes under the government's revised petroleum pricing framework, which allows the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to announce fuel prices daily.
The latest revision comes amid lawmakers' and petroleum dealers' concerns about fuel availability, as regional tensions continue.
On Friday, the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association urged consumers to avoid panic buying, warning that unnecessary purchases could disrupt market conditions.
During parliamentary discussions, Senator Sherry Rehman raised questions about petrol availability in December, while opposition leader Raja Nasir Abbas expressed concern about the potential effects of worsening tensions in the Middle East.
Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, however, maintained that Pakistan was not facing fuel supply problems.
Petrol price changes directly affect motorists, motorcyclists and rickshaw users, while diesel costs affect freight transport, public transport and agricultural operations.
As the daily pricing mechanism remains in place, domestic fuel rates may continue to fluctuate in response to international market movements.
