Rawalpindi:The Women's Parliamentary Caucus (WPC), led by Secretary Dr. Shahida Rehmani, convened meetings to review workplace and domestic safety frameworks for female civil servants after the brutal murder of Hina Javed, an employee at the National Assembly . A parliamentary delegation visited Javed's family, while both the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and the House Standing Committee on Interior confirmed they will oversee the progress of the police inquiry.
Law enforcement agencies and parliamentary bodies are monitoring the investigation into the murder of Hina, who according to police records was married in November 2025 and was discovered dead while bound to a bathroom fixture at her in law's residence in Rawalpindi on August 20. Initial postmortem findings indicated severe physical trauma, including a neck fracture, damaged ribs, and marks consistent with strangulation.
The victim's father in law, Asghar Ali, initially reported the incident as a house robbery but investigators dismissed the claim following a preliminary inspection of the crime scene. Police subsequently registered a premeditated murder case under Sections 302 (willful killing) and 34 (acts done by several persons) in furtherance of common intention of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against her husband, Sohail Asghar, her father in law, and their domestic worker, Zeeshan.
During proceedings at the Rawalpindi district courts on August 26, Civil Judge Rana Shahnawaz Khan extended the physical remand of Sohail Asghar and Zeeshan by three days. The court instructed the investigating officers to expedite the inquiry and submit the final charge sheet upon receiving DNA and polygraph analysis reports from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) in Lahore. Legal counsel representing the victim's family, Advocate Shah Khawar, asked that the court order the formal arrest of the father in law to ensure an unhindered investigation.
The case has drawn official responses from legislative and human rights bodies in the wake of three similar murders of women occurring in the greater Islamabad area over the last week.
