Islamabad: The Sub Committee on Legal Reforms and Legislative Scrutiny of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) met yesterday, August 24, at the Parliament House to examine legal protections against workplace harassment
Officials from the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) briefed the panel on the legal framework governing the protection of women in employment settings. The sub committee reviewed implementation mechanisms to address gaps in institutional oversight and enforcement across public and private sector organisations.
Sub committee Chairperson Sofia Saeed Shah, MNA, presided over the session. Members in attendance included MNAs Dr Nafeesa Shah, Akhtar Bibi, Ayesha Nazir, Musarat Asif Khawaja, Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, Shaista Khan, Syeda Shehla Raza, and Saba Sadiq.
. The session assumes significance as it comes directly after the murder of former National Information Technology Board (NITB) employee Hina Javed at her in laws' residence in Rawalpindi.
Yesterday's sub committee session formed part of a coordinated push by the caucus to examine workplace rights for women. A WPC delegation also visited the National Commission on the Status of Women to discuss institutional monitoring, while NA speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq referred the murder of Hina Javed to the Standing Committee on Interior for a report.
