Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated on Tuesday that any unprovoked attack on a member state of the Makkah Defence Alliance a collective security arrangement comprising Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye would be treated as an attack on all three nations. Speaking on Geo News' Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath, Asif warned that the mutual defense mechanism stands ready for activation following recent military strikes targeting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He stressed that there should be no ambiguity regarding the pact's obligations if regional aggression continues.
The minister’s remarks follow a series of missile and drone attacks launched by Yemen’s Houthi militia against southern Saudi Arabian cities and vital economic infrastructure. The strikes targeted Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran, leaving at least 73 civilians injured and heightening fears of a wider conflict spilling across the region. Islamabad strongly condemned the offensive, describing it as a flagrant violation of Saudi sovereignty and reiterating its unwavering support for the Kingdom's territorial integrity, security, and prosperity.
Asif clarified that any unprovoked aggression or spillover of the Yemeni conflict into Saudi Arabian territory would immediately activate the agreement. The declaration underscores the deepening trilateral security ties between Islamabad, Riyadh, and Ankara amidst mounting regional instability, signalling a clear deterrence posture against cross border attacks targeting Saudi Arabia.
