Rawalpindi: Pakistan defeated England by 87 runs in the ODI tri-series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, with Arafat Minhas contributing with both bat and ball.
England were dismissed for 215 in 38.4 overs while chasing Pakistan's 302/9. Minhas returned figures of 6 to 40 in 8.4 overs after scoring 59 off 58 deliveries.
Pakistan's innings was in trouble at 133 to 5 before Hasan Nawaz and Minhas added 78 for the sixth wicket. Hasan scored 79 off 74 balls, including four sixes, while Faheem Ashraf contributed 39 off 26 deliveries to take Pakistan past 300.
England initially looked in control as Tom Banton and Ben Duckett put on 91 for the first wicket. Duckett scored 45 before Haris Rauf broke the partnership, while Banton reached 57 before falling to Minhas.
The dismissal triggered a collapse in England's batting order. Minhas removed captain Harry Brook for five and later dismissed Jordan Cox, Jamie Overton, Will Jacks and Adil Rashid. Naseem Shah accounted for Joe Root, who made 33.
England captain Brook admitted his side failed to build partnerships after the opening stand and let Pakistan's spinners dictate play.
Speaking after receiving the Player of the Match award, Minhas credited the slower pitch and his bowling variations for his success. He also highlighted his partnership with Hasan as the turning point in Pakistan's innings.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi praised the middle order's contributions but raised concerns about the top order, saying the team needed more consistency ahead of the World Cup.
The result gave Pakistan another tri series win after their 37 run win over Sri Lanka on October 18.
