London: Pakistani education activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai was photographed with Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, following an afternoon tea meeting at Claridge's hotel in London's Mayfair district on Wednesday, October 7.
Pictures circulating online show the two women spending time together at the hotel before embracing outside as they prepared to leave.
The photographs have drawn attention on social media, renewing interest in the relationship between the Pakistani activist and the former working member of the British royal family.
According to People magazine, the meeting was an informal reunion between friends rather than a publicly announced engagement.
The pair reportedly enjoyed afternoon tea in the hotel's Foyer & Reading Room, and photos of their meeting later appeared on social media.
The outing also marked Meghan's first known public appearance in London since she and Prince Harry returned to Britain with their children in August 2026.
Although the Duchess has kept a relatively limited public schedule since returning to the UK, her meeting with Malala has drawn attention because they have previously participated in discussions about women's rights and education.
The two women previously participated in a virtual discussion in October 2020 to mark the International Day of the Girl.
During that conversation, Malala joined Meghan and Prince Harry to discuss barriers preventing girls from accessing education and the importance of supporting educational opportunities for young women.
Their shared interest in girls' education has remained a point of connection between them.
Malala, who became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient in 2014, continues to advocate for girls' education internationally through her work with the Malala Fund.
She remains Pakistan's only female Nobel laureate and is recognised internationally for her campaigning on educational rights.
Meanwhile, Meghan has continued to pursue charitable and business activities since stepping back from royal duties alongside Prince Harry in 2020.
Despite the attention surrounding their London meeting, neither Malala nor Meghan has publicly announced a new joint initiative arising from the occasion.
For now, the circulating photographs document a personal reunion between two public figures who previously worked together to highlight the importance of girls' education.
