Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has summoned a meeting at 2 pm to review the progress made by the economic reforms committee for initiating structural reforms in all sectors of the economy.
The committee is headed by Minister of Finance (MoF) Muhammad Aurangzeb will brief the PM about the proposed measures the committee finalised to improve the overall governance in the public and private sector organisations. Apart from finance minister top brass of civil bureaucracy and regulatory bodies will participate in the meeting.
The PM constituted a 15 member committee in July of this year to improve economic governance and tighten oversight across key sectors of the economy. It is part of a broader reform agenda focused on strengthening institutions, accountability and policy coordination.
The move comes after repeated reminders from international partners, including the IMF, that Pakistan’s long term economic stability depends not only on short term stabilisation measures but also on deeper governance reforms.
It will submit quarterly reports to the PM, detailing progress made, challenges faced and further steps required. Members of the committee include the secretaries of finance, law, planning and establishment, as well as the Law and Justice Commission and Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). The Governor SBP and Chairman’s SECP and FBR are also included.
